Fumbled by Alexa Martin (Playbook #2)

I’ve been going to a lot of soccer games (GO ACFC!) and I think I picked this up because I keep saying football and subliminal messaging is a bitch! BUT ALSO! I’ve been trying to read the books that have been pushed to the bottom of my TBR stack.

I first read Intercepted, book 1 in the Playbook series, back in the winter and immediately bought book 2 but it languished on the shelf. I don’t remember why though.

Poppy has been raising her son for nine years when she bumps into her son’s father, her childhood love, TK at the bar where she works. TK is a star wide-receiver (that means he catches the ball, Sky). TK wants in Poppy’s life but Poppy has reservations, not just on behalf their son, but how much TK has changed and she thinks CTE is to blame.

This book was lovely. the stressful moments weren’t very stressful because TK and Poppy always felt inevitable. They rarely shied away from each other. Always letting the other orbit. It was beautiful. Sex was explicit but with only one or two fully-described scenes.

I think what I loved the most about this book was the discussion surrounding CTE, the brain injuries football players get despite helmets, and how prevalent, dangerous, and untreated it is by the NFL. Alexa Martin’s commentary was casual but salty. -Ford
