The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern
Once again, Erin Morgenstern has crafted a beautifully magnificent wonderland. A tapestry of stories that weaves through and around each other in an incredible way.
Zachary Ezra Rawlins knows there is more to life but doesn’t realize just how much more until he finds an unauthored book with a story from his childhood inside. He follows the breadcrumbs until he’s in the Harbor at The Starless Sea, a magical underground library, fighting for it’s survival. Interwoven with past and present stories about Time and Fate’s love, the Owl King, and those who wish to preserve The Starless Sea from the outside world, this books is infinite.
I just. I cannot. It’s so many things. How do I choose just one thing to talk about? The story within within the stories? The cyclical reincarnations? The symbolic metaphors?
I can’t just dip my toe into The Starless Sea without sinking down into it’s golden darkness. -Ford

I read this book over a year ago and only now do I feel like I can write a review.
I needed time to put my awe into words. I was speechless for a year.
This atmospheric ode to all things books is slow and beautiful, like honey, melodic as a waltz and unmistakable in its' devotion to the written word. Morgenstern herself has said that she spent time making her sentence flow in a particular rhythm and it shows. You are not only drawn into this massive underground world, but it also makes you completely disassociate with the here and now, drop everything and dive into the honeyed surface.
Do yourself a huge favor and escape into this world. Meet Zachary Ezra Rawlins, meet Dorian and Mirabelle, and fall in love with them with your whole heart. Let this beauty into your life. Laugh with them. Cry with them. Long for a hidden library under New York with them.
And when it is over, think of hosting a party where everyone dresses as their favorite literary character so you can all drink Sidecars with no sugar.- Sky
