Vanessa Yu’s Magical Paris Tea Shop

Cute, fluffy with super low stakes. A nice escape to the City of Lights.

The romance between Aunt Evelyn and Gerard is gorgeous and lyrical. The one between Vanessa and... (you know it's not great when I can't quite remember if he's Tom), I'm gonna say Tom for now, is more in the background of the love affair Vanessa has with Parisian food. (No judgment here.)

The descriptions of places, food, the smell of the air after it rains are beautiful and vivid, the people in this world felt a bit flat by comparison.

I did get very jealous that Vanessa and Marc!! (His name is Marc.) They got to see the Atelier of Gustave Klimt's work, an exhibition I know a lot about, but have not been able to see in person. (It's on the big list of things to do in my life.)

I needed a bit more meat on the bones of these people. I wanted to know more about their gifts and their stories. What I saw I liked and I bet this would make for a spectacular movie. (Can we, can we, please!!) -Sky.

This was the perfect, cozy, no stress book. The stakes were high for the character but low for the reader. It was beautiful clothes, delicious food, cultured sights, sounds, smells. The Paris world of this book was perfection!

It took me a bit to remember that this isn’t a romance, the connection between Marc and Vanessa isn’t the central part. Vanessa’s relationship with herself, her magic, and her aunt were front and center.

I thought this was a delightful book.

Going to go have a cuppa and a croissant if I can find one… -Ford
