Heartless by Gena Showalter

Look. I honestly thought I was reading The Warlord by Gena Showalter for the first few chapters…then I was like, “Wait. I thought she was supposed to be a harpy…” So I figured it out and kept reading.

This one is a cute story about Cookie, a ruthless gamer girl, who receives a heart transplant from a fey. A fey that Kaysar, the king of the fey court of Midnight is hunting. They are both not good with people and each other, but recognize and honor each others strengths, which I thought was very fun.

One of my pet peeves though, is when the only gay characters are pedophiles. That’s just not cool and perpetuates a stereotype. C’mon, please show someone in a healthy, pan/bi/same-sexual relationship.

It’s mildly sexy. I always wish there could be more, but I enjoyed the travel through the fey realms, battling mystical creatures, and the fight scenes.

Now to read The Warlord…-Ford

CW: one of the characters experienced childhood assault and it’s heavily implied.
