Instant Karma by Marissa Meyer

I read this book right after Simmer Down by Sarah Smith and the two books have so many similarities:

  1. Set in beach locales. (IK: SoCal, SD: Maui)

  2. Enemies to lovers

  3. Cute animals (IK: sea lions, SD: preggers cat)

The one thing that the YA, Instant Karma had, that Simmer Down did not, was the fabulist concept of Prudence being able to mete out justice on people with the squeeze of the fist. I just wish there was MORE of it. This book was very much more the romance/”get a good grade on the project” storyline than the “I have magic powers now.”

The opening of this book reminded me of the scene in Twilight where Edward has to sit next to Bella for all of science class and he cannot get away from her fast enough.

I also had a dream about being at a high school bonfire the night after reading that same scene…so the book is sticky in the subconscious.

Also, just as a sidebar, I found the font of the hardback much harder on my eyes. But look, I read my kindle with a HUGE font, so who am I to say anything?!
