Kamila Knows Best by Farah Heron

This is a very slow burn, so be ready for lots of longing and zero on-page sex. (There is one excellent second base scene).

There is an in-depth conversation about traditional gender roles and the expectation of older generations for younger ones to “fall in line” and how outdated and unnecessary that is. A great discussion about women who like fashion and makeup, being taken seriously in “suit-wearing” circles. One can be both clever and fabulous, and this book points that out in the best way.

There are also some great secondary characters that create a diverse and supportive village for these characters to bounce ideas off. I was a huge fan of multiple relationships between cis/het men and cis/het women that are completely platonic with not a hint of romance in sight. Normalize platonic supportive friendships!

Is the wet Sari scene a bit on the nose?  Yes, yes it is, but by that point, I was so charmed by Kamila and Rohan that I was ready for the cheesy moment about to come.

I also immediately wanted to start throwing really well-put-together Bollywood Movie Nights with my friends and needed the location of the nearest Doggy Prom. How cute is that fundraising idea!!

Overall, this was so cute and insightful to the culture that is changing with the times, it invited us into this world and made us feel like one of the guests at these movie nights. -Sky
