Mangos and Mistletoe by Adriana Herrera

Review_ Mangos and Mistletoe .jpg

This was everything I wanted it to be and more. Holidays. Baking Competition. Edinburgh. F/F love. Super Streamy Sex Scenes. And real problems, real people, real mistakes.

Mangos... is well structured with an excellent pace. Sometimes in a dual point-of-view, one of the characters is still the main focus. In this novella, the two women truly had equal time. We got to know them individually and as a pair.

Considering the length of the story, I was not expecting such a complex discussion about cultural nostalgia vs. toxic culture. Kiskeya and Sully have really different feelings about being Dominican and it colors everything about what they do and what it means to each of them to be queer in that culture.

A special mention is reserved for the side characters, who in so few words were so endearing. I need friends like that in my life ASAP. And that mom! I need an extra mom just like that.

This review would not be complete without the mention of the food. THE FOOD!!! I need to try all the cakes. All of them!

Thank you Adriana Herrera for this absolute escape from the current moment. It was glorious and hot and so delicious and luscious with a great sense of humor.
