Simmer Down by Sarah Smith

Every time I think about this book I think of that SNL skit, “simma down nah.”

I read two books on my vacation weekend out of town. This and Instant Karma by Marissa Meyers. I didn’t realize that I had picked up two Enemies to Lovers (my least favorite trope) with beach settings.

This book, not being a YA like Instant Karma, there was MORE THAN KISSING, which was great. Also, the stakes resonated a bit more with me since it was about taking care of your family, succeeding at work, owning a pet, and other generally “adult” topics.

As I put in my NSFW review below (also posted on our IG - PLEASE FOLLOW US), the sex scenes felt a bit sanitized. They were nice, well described, lots of character emotion, but something about them held me at a distance. Giving the benefit of the doubt, I was in a weird head-space reading this book, but maybe that also says something - that I wasn’t completely transported.

Simmer Down definitely made me ready for another trip to Hawai’i and to go snorkeling in those warm, warm waters.

Conclusion: dip your toe in, the water’s fine.
