Sophie Go’s Lonely Hearts Club by Roselle Lim
I am entirely charmed by the magical world of Roselle Lim. I first stumbled upon her with Vanessa Yu’s Magical Paris Tea Shop. You may remember, I’m a sucker for two things: Paris and Tea, so it was painfully obvious I would pick up that book.
This one hopped to the top of my TBR thanks to @berkleyromance and @this_is_edeweiss. It releases Aug 16, 2022.
In the same world as Vanessa Yu, Sophie Go is a new matchmaker, able to see the threads that connect people together, trying to start her career in her hometown, Toronto. In the middle of winter. It just needed to be said. There is snow and jackets and boots and, like every major city, nowhere to park, but unlike every major city (coughLAcough) there is decent public transit.
Sophie is starting her adult life. She has moved out of her parent’s house and out from under her mother’s exacting, overbearing, and narcissistic thumb. Her new apartment building opens her up to a unique matchmaking client pool: geriatrics. She pitches her services to the “Old Ducks” group, older men looking for companionship.
This book isn’t a romance, it’s probably best categorized as (women’s) fiction. There is a HEA, but there is death and some really, REALLY toxic parental interactions, so just a heads up.
I read 80% of this book in one sitting. The cliff-ish-hanger chapters just made it so easy to keep reading! -Ford
